Along the way, Gana must contend with Singa, a ruthless member of Bhairathi Ranagal's gang played by the versatile Madhu Guruswamy, as well as Kashi, another member of the gang played with eerie conviction by Vasishta N. Simha, and Shabari, Bhairathi Ranagal's sinister right-hand man played by the chilling Babu Hirannaiah.

Mufti (2017) story & Review

The story of Gana, an undercover cop who infiltrates a dangerous crime syndicate in Mangalore, is one filled with twists and turns that will leave you on the edge of your seat. For two years, Gana has worked tirelessly to gain the trust of the syndicate's leaders, Singa and Shabari. But it is Bhairathi Ranagal, the boss who rules the village of Ronapura, who Gana is tasked with serving.

Under the commissioner's orders, Gana arrives in Ronapura with his identity concealed. He meets Kashi, who heads Bhairathi's cement company, and is immediately met with jealousy from Kashi. Meanwhile, Gurukanth Bhandri, the Chief Ministerial Candidate for Karnataka, is targeting Ronapura for the upcoming elections. But when their party member, MP Ekanath Nimbalkar, dies in an accident planned by Bhairathi, Raghuveer Bhandri meets social worker and environmentalist Ashwath Kudari to be the new candidate for the party. However, Kudari refuses.

As tensions rise, Ashwath Kudari holds a rally against Bhairathi for polluting the environment due to his mining operations. Bhairathi responds by orchestrating a riot in the village and burning the houses of those who support Kudari's rally. Kudari joins Raghuveer Bhandari's campaign as a result. Meanwhile, Gana earns Singa and Shabari's trust by helping the gang remove the stock black money from a goods train.

Things take a dark turn when Kashi brings a cop who had leaked information about unaccounted money on a goods train to Gana. Kashi tells Gana to shoot the cop, and Gana reluctantly complies. The guilt he feels about the incident makes him determined to arrest Bhairathi. However, Gana later realizes that Bhairathi is not the villain he thought he was when he discovers that the money transferred from the train was donated to orphanages, old-age homes, and public schools.

As the election approaches, Bhairathi is accused of attacking Kudari, but he catches the real culprit, his own driver. Bhairathi gifts Kudari with plants and flowers as compensation and asks him to stand independently in the elections. But as Bhairathi and Gana head to the election office, their car explodes, killing them both. It is revealed that Raghuveer Bhandari bribed Shabari to kill Bhairathi in return for nominating him in the Ronapura Constituency elections. Bhairathi's legacy lives on, however, as he hangs Shabari's body at the lamp post near Raghuveer's house and warns him not to interfere.
