Aaru (2005) English Subtitle - Action, Drama and Power
Aaru is a high-octane Tamil action film directed by Hari and produced by Saran. Released on December 9, 2005, it stars Suriya in the lead role alongside Trisha, Vadivelu, Kalabhavan Mani, and Ashish Vidyarthi. The film, despite mixed reviews from critics, turned out to be a commercial success, thanks to its fast-paced storytelling, gripping action sequences, and Suriya’s power-packed performance. With music composed by Devi Sri Prasad, cinematography by Priyan, and editing by V. T. Vijayan, Aaru delivers a gritty tale of loyalty, betrayal, and revenge set against the Chennai underworld.
Aarumugam, aka Aaru (Suriya), is a street-smart enforcer raised by the sister of gangster Vishwanathan (Ashish Vidyarthi). Aaru is fiercely loyal to Vishwanathan and helps him dominate Chennai’s underworld. When a rivalry erupts between Vishwanathan and Kothanda Rama Reddy (Jaya Prakash Reddy), Aaru fights on his mentor’s behalf. However, his world turns upside down when his close friends are brutally killed in a politically motivated protest.
As Aaru digs deeper, he discovers that Vishwanathan himself orchestrated the attack to serve his own ambitions. Betrayed and enraged, Aaru sets out on a mission to take down Vishwanathan and eliminate corruption and violence from the city. Meanwhile, his love interest, Mahalakshmi (Trisha), urges him to leave his violent past behind, but Aaru finds himself torn between love and vengeance.
Suriya delivers an electrifying performance as Aaru, portraying both his ruthlessness and emotional vulnerability with conviction. Trisha provides a refreshing contrast, bringing warmth to the intense narrative. Ashish Vidyarthi and Kalabhavan Mani play their antagonistic roles effectively, while Vadivelu adds comic relief as Sumo, balancing the film’s darker tones.
Director Hari, known for his fast-paced action films, crafts a gritty gangster drama with his signature raw action sequences and gripping screenplay. The film’s intense fight scenes and emotional depth make it an engaging watch.
Devi Sri Prasad’s energetic soundtrack complements the film’s high-adrenaline sequences, with songs like "Nenjam Enum" adding emotional weight. Priyan’s cinematography captures the chaotic streets of Chennai, enhancing the film’s realistic and rugged atmosphere.
Aaru is a gritty and engaging action thriller that showcases Suriya’s versatility. While it may follow a familiar gangster-revenge template, its fast-paced narration, action-packed sequences, and strong performances make it a memorable watch for Tamil action film lovers.
