Vedalam is a 2015 Tamil-language action thriller directed by Siva and starring Ajith Kumar in a dual-shaded role. The film follows Ganesh, a seemingly kind-hearted taxi driver in Kolkata, who harbors a dark past. With high-octane action sequences, emotional depth, and a gripping storyline, Vedalam became a blockbuster hit upon release.

The film introduces Ganesh (Ajith Kumar) and his sister Thamizh (Lakshmi Menon) as they move to Kolkata for her studies. However, beneath his soft demeanor lies a vengeful warrior with a mission to take down a dangerous human trafficking ring led by ruthless criminals Aniket, Abhinay, and Rahul. As the story unfolds, Ganesh's past identity as Vedalam—a feared vigilante—is revealed, leading to intense confrontations and explosive action scenes.

Ajith Kumar's performance is a major highlight, effortlessly switching between a charming, protective brother and a fierce, unstoppable force against crime. Shruti Haasan plays Swetha, a lawyer who starts off as a rival but later develops feelings for Ganesh. Lakshmi Menon delivers a heartfelt performance, while Rahul Dev and Kabir Duhan Singh bring menace as the antagonists.

Anirudh Ravichander’s music adds energy to the film, with tracks like "Aaluma Doluma" becoming chart-toppers. The cinematography by Vetri and crisp editing by Ruben ensure a visually engaging experience. Siva's direction keeps the narrative gripping, balancing mass action with emotional elements.

Released during Diwali 2015, Vedalam received positive reviews and became a commercial success, grossing around ₹120–150 crore. It was later remade in Bengali as Sultan: The Saviour and in Telugu as Bhola Shankar.
