Gana (2025) English Subtitle - Time Travel with a Twist

Gana is a 2025 Indian Kannada-language sci-fi action thriller directed by Hari Prasad Jakka and produced under Cherry Creations. A remake of the Telugu film Play Back, the movie stars Prajwal Devaraj, Vedhika, Yasha Shivakumar, Sampath Raj, Ravi Kale, and Krishi Thapanda in key roles. The film was released on January 31, 2025.

The story revolves around Gana (Prajwal Devaraj), an investigative journalist who moves into an old house with his friend. One day, he receives a strange call on his landline from Sujatha (Vedhika), a woman who appears to be calling from 1993. As their conversations continue, Gana realizes that his phone has connected him to the past. When Sujatha gets tangled in a murder case, Gana digs deeper and finds that her fate is directly tied to events in his own time. When he attempts to change the past, he discovers that altering history may come with serious consequences.

The film attempts a time-travel thriller concept, but the execution feels basic. While the second half has a few engaging moments, the story lacks originality, and the screenplay fails to build tension. Prajwal Devaraj delivers a strong performance, but Vedhika, Yasha Shivakumar, and Krishi Thapanda don’t have much scope in their roles. Sampath Raj and Ravi Kale bring intensity, but the action sequences feel too staged, and the music lacks impact.

Despite its interesting premise, Gana doesn’t offer much new to the time-travel genre. The film is a one-time watch for sci-fi thriller fans, but it fails to leave a lasting impact.
