Laila (2025) English Subtitle - Vishwak Sen’s Dual Role Fails in This Comedic Disaster
Laila, directed by Ram Narayan and released on February 14, 2025, is a Telugu-language action comedy that unfortunately falls flat on many levels. Despite featuring Vishwak Sen in a dual role and Akanksha Sharma in the lead, the film's weak writing, outdated humor, and over-reliance on vulgarity make it a forgettable experience. It opened to highly negative reviews and struggled to meet expectations.
The plot revolves around Sonu Model (Vishwak Sen), a famous beautician from Hyderabad’s Old City, who is forced to disguise himself as Laila. This situation leads to a series of chaotic, romantic, and action-filled events, but the comedy, which should have been the film’s strength, falls woefully short. The romantic track between Vishwak Sen and Akanksha Sharma lacks chemistry and is overshadowed by skin-show gimmicks rather than genuine emotional connection. What could have been a humorous take on gender disguise and identity is reduced to a series of poorly executed, crude gags.
The supporting cast, which includes veteran actors like Vennela Kishore, Ravi Mariya, and Nagineedu, is wasted on one-dimensional roles that contribute little to the plot. The humor, intended to be a highlight, relies heavily on double-meaning dialogues and crude jokes that grow tiresome very quickly. Additionally, the film's attempt to incorporate Hyderabad Old City slang for laughs backfires, making the humor feel forced and unnatural.
The action sequences, meant to add excitement to the film, are exaggerated and unnecessary, only adding to the runtime. The songs, composed by Leon James, though catchy, do little to elevate the overall experience. The track "Sonu Model", sung by Vishwak Sen, is an attempt to infuse energy into the film but ultimately fails to make an impact.
Vishwak Sen, once a promising actor with films like Paagal and Ori Devuda, has sadly misstepped with Laila. His performance, which tries to cater to the "mass hero" image, feels forced and relies too much on cuss words and below-the-belt jokes rather than solid character development.
In conclusion, Laila is a disaster of a film that fails to deliver on its promise of comedy, action, and romance. The weak writing, exaggerated humor, and lack of fresh ideas make it an exhausting watch that leaves the audience craving something better. With a rating of 2.7/10 on IMDb, Laila stands as a prime example of how not to execute a mass-market action comedy.
