Directed by William Stead and written by Harry Boxley, this ITN Studios production follows a group of summer camp counselors haunted by the legend of Popeye, leading to a bizarre series of gruesome murders. With a runtime of 1 hour and 19 minutes, the film attempts to merge classic cartoon nostalgia with gory horror but ultimately lands as an unintentionally comedic misfire.

The story revolves around a group of camp counselors who, while setting up a summer retreat, become the targets of a relentless Popeye. Unlike the wholesome, spinach-powered hero from E.C. Segar’s original comics, this version is a brutal, merciless killer with an appetite for violence rather than leafy greens. While the concept had potential as a horror parody, the execution fails to deliver any genuine thrills or suspense. Instead, Popeye’s Revenge feels more like an exaggerated parody of slasher films, with nonsensical kills and laughable effects.

The film boasts a cast featuring Emily Mogilner, Connor Powles, Danielle Ronald, and Danielle Scott, among others, but their performances struggle to elevate the weak script. The infamous scene where Popeye crushes a woman’s breast with sheer strength before drowning her is a prime example of the film’s over-the-top absurdity. While meant to be shocking, it comes off as ridiculous.

ITN Studios, known for their Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey franchise and other fairytale-horror crossovers, surprisingly does not include Popeye’s Revenge in their so-called "Poohverse." However, the same low-budget, gimmicky approach is evident, making it clear that the film was created more for shock value than genuine horror storytelling.

Visually, the production quality is decent for a low-budget horror flick, but the cinematography does little to enhance the atmosphere. The kills, while gory, are more amusing than terrifying. The biggest issue lies in the lack of a coherent plot—scenes feel disconnected, making it seem like Popeye is simply moving from one random kill to the next without any logical progression.

Ultimately, Popeye’s Revenge is more of a joke than a true horror film.
