Pett Kata Shaw is a groundbreaking 2022 Bangladeshi horror web series streaming on Chorki, directed and written by Nuhash Humayun. This anthology series reimagines traditional Bengali folktales into chilling, contemporary horror stories that tap deep into cultural superstitions and urban fears.

Each episode tells a unique, eerie tale, starting with Ei Buildinge Meye Nishedh, where a quiet night turns into a ghostly encounter involving cooked fish and a deadly secret. Another standout, Mishti Kichu, features a sweet seller whose wishes come true in the most unsettling ways. The third episode, Loke Bole, brings forward village myths about women and open hair, while Nishir Daak explores supernatural disappearances in coastal Cox’s Bazar.

What makes Pett Kata Shaw exceptional is its blend of minimalistic cinematography, immersive sound design, and an authentic tone that reflects the oral storytelling traditions of Bangladesh. The performances—especially by Sohail Mondal, Shirin Akter Shila, Afzal Hossain, and Chanchal Chowdhury—add gravitas to the ghost stories, while Tahsin Rahman’s camera work and Fuad Shourav’s editing sustain a consistent tension across the anthology.

While its debut episode received mixed reactions, critics appreciated the creative direction and overall storytelling quality. With a second season confirmed, the series continues to redefine Bangladeshi horror, a genre rarely explored in South Asia.

Pett Kata Shaw earned international recognition, with its official selection at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2023, proving that regional horror rooted in culture can resonate globally. For fans of folklore, minimalist horror, and South Asian storytelling, this is a must-watch.
