Maranamass (2025) English Subtitle - Serial Killers, Chaos & Comedy Collide on a Night Bus

Maranamass, the directorial debut of Sivaprasad, is a deliciously dark Malayalam black comedy that blends suspense, satire, and absurdity into one chaotic night. Led by a career-defining performance from Basil Joseph, the film pushes the envelope with its bizarre premise and gutsy execution.

The plot is built around a serial killer terrorizing a city, but the narrative takes an unexpected turn when multiple characters—including the killer, his target, a mysterious girl, her boyfriend, and a few oddballs—end up on the same night bus. What follows is a series of madcap events that are equal parts thrilling and hilariously twisted.

Basil Joseph plays Luke P P, a quirky and unsuspecting everyman caught in a spiral of murder, mystery, and mistaken identity. Rajesh Madhavan is bone-chilling as Sreekumar “SK”, the unpredictable serial killer. Siju Sunny as Aravindan (aka Aruvi) and Anishma Anilkumar as Jessy bring warmth and emotional weight to the madness. Babu Antony’s towering screen presence as DYSP Ajay Ramachandran adds action grit to the otherwise offbeat setting.

The writing by Siju Sunny and Sivaprasad cleverly weaves in satire, genre parody, and biting social commentary. Neeraj Revi’s cinematography captures the nightscape with stylish flair, while JK’s music matches the film’s eccentric tone. Chaman Chakko’s editing ensures the film never loses momentum in its 141-minute runtime.

Despite its absurd premise, Maranamass is a refreshing break from formulaic storytelling. It pokes fun at hero worship, news sensationalism, and our obsession with “mass” films. The tagline “Not a mass padam” isn’t just clever—it’s accurate.

Tovino Thomas, who co-produced the film, deserves credit for backing this experimental gem. The film, released on 10 April 2025 during Vishu, turned out to be both a critical and commercial success, grossing ₹19.5 crore.

Maranamass is not your typical whodunit—it’s a wild ride full of surprises, perfect for those who enjoy cinema that’s unpredictable, funny, and a little bit twisted.
