Kerala Crime Files English Subtitle - The Mystery of CPO Ambili Raju Deepens
Kerala Crime Files is a Malayalam-language web series that combines gritty realism with suspenseful storytelling. Directed by Ahammed Khabeer, the show explores the dark corners of law enforcement through investigative drama. The series has garnered attention for its compelling performances by Aju Varghese and Lal, and its two-season structure gives audiences a deeper look into Kerala’s fictional yet eerily realistic crime landscape.
Season 1, titled “Shiju, Parayil Veedu, Neendakara”, is set in 2011 and follows a small police team led by SI Manoj (Aju Varghese) and CI Kurian Avaran (Lal). They investigate a sex worker's murder at a suburban lodge. With nothing but a fake name “Shiju” and a misleading address as leads, the team chases shadows through a maze of local characters and half-truths. The writing by Ashiq Aimar keeps the mystery grounded in reality, avoiding the clichés of over-dramatized crime shows.
Season 2, “The Search for CPO Ambili Raju”, released in June 2025, shifts gears into an emotionally layered procedural. It explores the mysterious disappearance of CPO Ambili (Indrans), raising questions about integrity, power dynamics, and bureaucracy within the police force itself. As SI Manoj and CI Kurian delve deeper into Ambili’s past and the station's internal politics, the case becomes more personal and socially charged. The writing (by Bahul Ramesh) and pacing remain tight, and the series presents a refreshing portrayal of ethical policing.
The cast across both seasons delivers realistic, subdued performances, particularly Aju Varghese, who steps outside his usual comic roles with commendable maturity. Lal adds gravitas as the seasoned CI, while Indrans’ presence in Season 2 adds emotional depth.
The cinematography by Jithin Stanislaus and music by Hesham Abdul Wahab enhance the immersive feel. The show uses a single-camera setup, allowing an intimate glimpse into the lives of everyday officers. With each episode around 30 minutes, it’s perfect for binge-watching without burnout.
Streaming on JioHotstar, Kerala Crime Files offers a solid, realistic crime drama experience. While it doesn’t rely on grand spectacles, its strength lies in storytelling, well-fleshed characters, and socially aware narratives. A must-watch for fans of grounded crime thrillers in regional languages.
