Theevandi (2018) Story
In the village of Pullinad, Damodaran struggles to take his pregnant wife to the hospital during a rebellion following the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Ammavan, his wife's brother, arranges for a midwife, but their child is stillborn, leaving Damodaran devastated. Ammavan saves the day by blowing smoke at the seemingly dead child, which causes it to begin breathing. The child is named Bineesh, who later becomes a chain smoker. As Bineesh grows older, he falls in love with his childhood friend Devi, who belongs to a different caste. However, their relationship falls apart when Bineesh mistakenly places Devi's thaali, a holy thread, inside a cigarette packet. Bineesh's sister marries Vijith, a BSCL party member, while Bineesh continues to smoke heavily.
One day, while Bineesh is smoking, the MLA's Nepali driver, Sanju, gives him money for cigarettes, leading to a new world record. Unfortunately, the driver is a victim of the Blue Whale Challenge and crashes the car into the building where Bineesh is smoking, leaving the MLA in a coma. Later, Madhu and Bineesh fight over the nomination of a BCSL candidate for the by-election. Madhu challenges Bineesh to abstain from smoking until a particular day when the party will organize a human chain protest in the village. If Bineesh succeeds, Madhu promises to renounce his claim to the nomination and let Vijith be the sole nominee. Bineesh accepts the challenge but soon discovers that Madhu has hired spies to follow him and try to make him smoke.
Despite the spies' best efforts, Bineesh manages to abstain from smoking for several days. However, when he sneaks out of the house one night to smoke a cigarette, Madhu's spies capture a video of him. Bineesh's brother-in-law Vijith finds the cigarettes and takes Bineesh to Edison Island. However, Madhu discovers this and informs his party members. Meanwhile, Bineesh finds that Edison Island is devoid of drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes and is unable to leave the island. Madhu's men try to smuggle cigarettes to the island, but Safar hires a group of goons to guard the island.
On the day of the human chain protest, Libash goes with a group of Kalaripayattu practitioners and thrashes the goons guarding Edison Island. Finally, Bineesh successfully completes the challenge and abstains from smoking until the day of the protest. In the end, Vijith becomes the sole nominee for the by-election, and Bineesh quits smoking.
