Gin Ke Dus (2024) English Subtitle - A Chilling Giallo-Inspired Indian Thriller

Gin Ke Dus (2024), written and directed by Sareesh Sudhakaran, is a tense, stylized Hindi thriller that pays homage to 70s Italian Giallo cinema while grounding its story in the eerie stillness of rural India. Released on 15 March 2024, this indie gem is a slow-burning but haunting tale of murder, memory, and identity.

Set in a remote farmhouse in 1991, the film opens with an unnerving triple murder. The survivor, known only as Scholar (played by Himanshu Shekhar), becomes the focal point of a web of lies, guilt, and death. When three friends arrive from the city searching for Shyali, the twin sister of the murdered Attika (Trishana Goswami in a dual role), the true nightmare begins. What follows is a cerebral unraveling of truth, marked by betrayal, identity shifts, and a killer lurking in the shadows.

Sareesh Sudhakaran wears multiple hats here—director, writer, cinematographer, editor, composer—and delivers a tightly controlled vision. The cinematography echoes the vivid aesthetics of Dario Argento, while the narrative style draws on American slasher classics like Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, though notably without gratuitous gore. Instead, the horror is psychological, driven by tension, silence, and atmospheric dread.

The standout performance comes from Trishana Goswami, who seamlessly balances the contrasting personalities of the twins, while Sanjana Deshmukh brings an energetic edge as “Hottie,” one of the trio of friends whose curiosity leads to deadly consequences.

The music, also composed by Sudhakaran, adds another immersive layer. Tracks like “Battle Cry” and “Sister vs Sister” mirror the emotional duality of the plot—calm on the surface, chaos underneath.

With a runtime of under two hours, Gin Ke Dus never overstays its welcome. It’s a visually rich, narratively complex film that fans of indie thrillers and intelligent horror shouldn’t miss. If you're drawn to unsettling mysteries wrapped in style and symbolism, Gin Ke Dus will keep you counting down to its last shocking twist.
