Aşk Mevsimi (2024) English Subtitle - Bozcaada’s Beauty Shines in Season of Love
Season of Love (Aşk Mevsimi), directed by Murat Şeker, is a poetic Turkish romance that captures the bittersweet nature of love — how it grows, changes, and sometimes fades when two hearts beat out of sync. Released on February 2, 2024, and starring Dilan Çiçek Deniz, Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu, and Duygu Sarışın, the film explores a love story that evolves over time, reflecting the melancholy of missed chances and emotional misalignment.
The plot centers around Şirin (Dilan Çiçek Deniz) and Ali Yaman (Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu), childhood friends whose deep bond in Bozcaada matures into something more profound. However, just like the changing seasons, their emotions never seem to align at the right moment. What starts as innocent love becomes a journey of longing, timing, and emotional confusion. The story uses seasonal metaphors to show how love can bloom and wither when not nurtured in sync.
Performances are strong throughout. Dilan Çiçek Deniz brings both fragility and quiet strength to Şirin, while Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu adds complexity to Ali’s emotional struggle. Their chemistry is subtle but effective, conveying years of unspoken feelings. Duygu Sarışın adds a fresh dynamic to the story, although her role feels underutilized.
The film’s cinematography by Tufan Kılınç enhances the emotional tone — Bozcaada’s serene beaches and rustic landscapes complement the narrative's nostalgia and emotional weight. The musical score by Serhat Ersöz is minimal but touching, echoing the film’s slow-burning intensity.
However, Season of Love is not without flaws. With a runtime of 126 minutes, the pacing feels stretched, especially in the middle. Some scenes linger too long without deepening the story, and the dialogue occasionally dips into melodrama. The critical reception reflects this, with an IMDb score of 5.7/10, 31% audience approval, and ₺2.3 million at the box office — a lukewarm performance for such an emotionally driven film.
In the end, Aşk Mevsimi is a story about the “what ifs” of love — beautifully filmed, gently acted, but occasionally uneven. It speaks to anyone who has loved someone at the wrong time.
