Siccin 7 (2024) English Subtitle - Ritual Horror Returns With Predictable Scares and a Strong Visual Mood
The long-running Turkish horror series continues with Siccin 7, directed and written by Alper Mestçi. Released on June 14, 2024, the latest installment returns to its roots of occult horror, bloodline curses, and unsettling spiritual possessions, but this time with diminishing returns despite a strong atmospheric setting.
The story revolves around Kemal (Serkan Atar) who moves his family into his late uncle’s mansion after cutting shady deals with a child panhandling mafia. His daughter Rüya (Duru Irmak Apaydin) suffers from a mysterious illness they attempt to conceal, but things spiral into chaos as Lale (Gönül Ürer), Kemal’s mother suffering from Alzheimer's, begins experiencing paranormal episodes. As the Black Moon of 2018 nears, the sinister Meral (Funda Eskioglu) begins her dark ritual.
While the plot introduces intriguing concepts involving illness, crime, and memory-related horror, much of it gets buried under an overload of clichéd jump scares. The strength of the series has always been its culturally rooted supernatural lore, but in Siccin 7, it sometimes feels like shock is favored over substance.
That said, the film’s production design and soundscape remain solid. The haunted mansion in Istanbul provides a perfect gothic backdrop for creeping dread. Ceyda Ceren Edis, who plays Serap, emerges as a highlight of the film. Her performance and presence bring a much-needed emotional anchor amid the chaos. Fans online have even expressed a newfound interest in her post-release.
Unfortunately, Meral’s character feels cartoonishly evil, lacking the depth or ambiguity that might have made her more terrifying. Her storyline leads to an expected ritual climax that fans of the franchise will likely predict early on.
With a runtime of just 94 minutes, Siccin 7 is brisk and occasionally engaging, especially for loyal fans of Turkish horror. However, it doesn’t offer much new to the franchise, relying heavily on loud scares rather than psychological buildup.
Grossing nearly $3 million globally, Siccin 7 proves there's still demand for homegrown Turkish horror — even if the storytelling is starting to wear thin. Recommended only for fans of the genre or franchise followers. Casual horror audiences may find the experience more exhausting than terrifying.
