"Sumo" (2025) is a Tamil-language sports comedy that brings together surfing, sumo wrestling, and heartfelt friendship in an entertaining blend. Directed by S. P. Hosimin and produced by Ishari K. Ganesh under Vels Film International, the film stars Shiva, Priya Anand, and real-life sumo wrestler Yoshinori Tashiro in a unique and quirky tale.

The film follows Shiva, a surfer who works at a coastal restaurant and surf club, whose life takes a wild turn when he discovers a sumo wrestler washed ashore. What follows is a hilarious and emotional journey of cultural exchange, camaraderie, and unexpected challenges. Shiva also penned the screenplay, showcasing his multifaceted talents.

Priya Anand plays Kanimozhi, offering a charming performance and great on-screen chemistry with Shiva. Yoshinori Tashiro brings authenticity and warmth to his role as Ganesh, the gentle giant. VTV Ganesh, Yogi Babu, Sathish, and Nizhalgal Ravi add humor and heart as part of the supporting cast.

Rajiv Menon’s cinematography captures the vibrant visuals of the surf life and the Japanese locales beautifully, while Praveen K. L. keeps the editing tight. The music by Nivas K. Prasanna, especially the single "Aazhiye", adds a youthful energy to the narrative.

"Sumo" succeeds with its original premise, light-hearted screenplay, and positive message. It’s a refreshing escape and one of the most feel-good Tamil films of 2025.
