Directed by Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G, and starring Dhyan Sreenivasan, Siju Wilson, and Rony David Raj, the film continues the Weekend Cinematic Universe after the cult hit Minnal Murali.

Set in the idyllic and fictional Plaachikkavu village, the story follows Ujjwalan (Dhyan Sreenivasan)—a timid yet imaginative local who, despite his fear of the dark, ends up being the go-to investigator for petty thefts. His world turns upside down when a series of murders begin to shake the peaceful village. As suspicion shifts from a local thief to a high-ranking cop and even to his own father, Ujjwalan teams up with CI Shambhu (Siju Wilson) and a misfit gang to hunt the killer.

What begins as a comedic village mystery soon descends into psychological thriller territory, complete with plot twists, fake murders, and psychopathic twin brothers. The film cleverly toys with detective genre tropes, referencing books and films Ujjwalan idolizes.

The direction and writing smartly blend absurdity and intrigue, offering both laugh-out-loud village antics and genuinely chilling moments. Rzee's soundtrack, particularly the retro-inspired score, complements the tonal shifts beautifully. Cinematography by Premkrishna Akkattu and Sraiyanti Harichandran gives the village of Plaachikkavu an eerie yet endearing vibe.

While not without its tonal inconsistencies and a somewhat overlong climax, Detective Ujjwalan succeeds as both a crowd-pleasing entertainer and a fresh take on village-set murder mysteries. It grossed ₹5.56 crore at the box office and is already building a cult following thanks to its unique genre blend and universe connections.
